Our highly qualified, creative, experience and caring staff members are always happy to help you and your child with all aspects of life at Rainbow Pre-school.
Our highest qualification has to be that we are all parents and some of us grandparents. We have "been there and done that."
Our second highest qualification is that most of us will ever see 40 again! (Yeh sure!)
JOAN MURRAY Dip. Ed., Pre-Sch. Cert., M.A.C.E., J.P., Director / Teacher
(At Rainbow since 1994)
Joan Murray trained at Callendar Park College of Education in Falkirk, Scotland, where she qualified to teach children aged 5 - 12 years.
She added to her qualifiications via The Open University, which gave her a further qualification to teach pre-school children, aged 3 - school age.
She trained in the Positive Parenting Program "Triple P," which is very valuable when helping parents with young children. Joan is always happy to offer suggestions and strategies to help manage the behaviour of young children.
Joan taught originally at Coulhill Primary School, Alness, Scotland until she emigrated to Australia in 1986.
In Australia she did a considerable amount of casual teaching at Ellison, Winmalee, Springwood, Braddock and Cambridge Park Public Schools and St. Thomas Aquinas, Our Lady of the Way and Mary MacKillop Catholic Schools.
Full time teaching followed at Kingswood Park, Jamisontown and Orchard Hills Public Schools.
In 1995, she opened "her dream" a fair dinkum, top quality pre-school called Rainbow.
Rainbow has grown from strength to strength with Joan being awarded a Major Award in Education at Government House during Children's Week 2000.
In 1999 and again in 2012, Joan was awarded with a National Excellence in Teaching Certificate as an "Inspirational Teacher."
Joan has also been called as an expert witness at the NSW Children's Court in Sydney and by local schools to assist in advising about readiness and transition to school.
Her motto is always that "The children come first" and "There's no such thing as I can't, you try your best."
DEBBIE FILMER Cert.III Childrens' Services, Authorised Supervisor.
(At Rainbow since 1995)
Debbie has been a valuable part of the Rainbow Team since we opened on 13th November 1995.
Her love of children and caring nature is obvious in all of her interactions at Rainbow.
Debbie acts and has acted as Authorised Supervisor many, many times over the years and often the children and parents do not notice that "Mrs Murray" is not there!
Debbie Filmer has been involved in local sport over many years and is a tireless fundraiser for the NSW Cancer Council.
She enjoys all art and craft activities, a talent that she is always happy to share with our children.
She is also a devoted "Abba fan" much to our children's amusement!!
The children would probably say that Mrs Filmer's motto should be, "Mamma Mia, here I go again!"
DENISE TRENT Dip. Art Ed., Dip. Childrens' Services, Advanced Child Care Worker.
(At Rainbow since 2008)
Denise Trent joined the Rainbow team in 2008, replacing a staff member who had been with us for 10 years. Naturally Denise's talents in art and craft are put to good use at Rainbow!
Denise has lived in the local area for many years with her family attending local schools.
Her devotion to the needs of our children are evident in everything that she does.
Although she has done some casual work in our local area, Denise says that she has found her "home " at Rainbow.
Denise is an asset to our team.
MICHELLE JONES Cert. III Childrens' Services (2012), Child Care Worker
(At Rainbow since 2010)
Michelle Jones's association with Rainbow goes back over 10 years as a parent of three "Rainbow Kids."
Michelle often remarks about how much we do each day at Rainbow now that she is on staff here. She's impressed!
Michelle's interactions with our children are always positive. She is fair and friendly in her discipline strategies and very caring of and sensitive to the needs of young children.
We are really happy to have someone of Michelle Jones' calibre with us in Rainbow.
JAMES MURRAY B.Ed., Dip.Teach., Grad. Dip. Ed. Admin (Dist.), J.P., Child Care Worker
James Murray is the retired principal from Glossodia Public School but is best known for his many years at Winmalee Public School.
He has lived in the mountains since 1973. Prior to that, he lived at Miranda, where he attended Alexander Mackie Teachers College and was educated at De La Salle Schools at Caringbah and Cronulla.
James visits us regularly and does Science experiments with our children as well as some casual work. He is our "Jack of all Trades" at Rainbow!
The children really enjoy his visits and we feel that it is good for the children to have a male with us, especially a mature, male role model, at a time when males in pre-schools get so much negative publicity.
